On Thursday Feb 16th the Les Malmgren imprint pond received its first batch of approximately 30,000 Chum salmon from Grover’s Creek Hatchery. The salmon just finished absorbing their egg sacks and are moving into the “fry” stage of life. Now that they’ve absorbed their egg sacks they’re getting comfortable swimming and are just starting to eat. These salmon will be raised by our volunteers in the imprint pond for the next month or two. Starting now we have four feedings per day that are open to the public. To see if we’re feeding keep an eye out for our Feeding Salmon Fry sign on Carkeek Park Road. We look forward to meeting with park visitors and answering questions!
